Xyla tossed and turned all night after spending the entire afternoon pacing. She was in big trouble. Not only had she been caught but had introduced herself as well. Her life was basically over. Two years of playing it safe all for nothing. What should she do? Yana would know, she always seemed to know what's best. If only she could contact her some way. She visited occasionally, so she must not have too far away, but Xyla hadn't ever left her big's apartment. If only- *tap* *tap* *tap*- no way. Xyla jumped out of bed and rushed to the hidden door. She pushed it open with a firm shove and was immediately greeted ay an energetic bear hug, "hey love, Susan is home all week, so I Just thought I would stop by for a visit.” Susan was Yana’s big.

“wha-I... wow,” Xyla returned the hug, “I’m so glad you came, I need your help”

Xyla invited her friend inside and sat down around a little table and chairs she got from some old boxes of toys when Vincent was storing someones stuff at his place. She quickly filled Yana in on her problem and asked her desperately if there was any solution.

“sure, as long as it doesn't seem like he’s going to tell the eraser’s don’t act.”

“r-really?” Xyla asked with hopeful surprise

“yeah, They just act like they will so people avoid the whole situation. so... do you think you can trust him?”

   “umm... m-maybe?”

Yana sighed, “that’s real encouraging. well, what do you know about the guy?”

“he’s a peace officer... what ever that is”

Yana nodded slowly with a thoughtful expression, “that could be useful... a peace officer is like a bounty hunter of sorts. They have some seriously strict rules about criminal offences so anything above a traffic or parking violation can get their licence revoked”

Xyla had no idea what half of that meant and apparently Yana could tell

“Since the city is too big the police, the ones who enforce laws, hire people to arrest and even kill criminals,” she explained, “anything else?”

“umm... he likes those disk games.”

Yana buried her face in her palm, “video-games, love, they’re video games. They are played on a TV”

Xyla blushed. being a shut in,  outside of her survival training she hadn’t really learned much of the world, “he has a pet...reptile? of some kind... he feeds it frozen mice and talks to it a lot.”

Yana rubbed her temples, “what kind of reptile?” maybe it was an illegal pet?

Xyla looked down at her hands with embarrassment as she twiddled her thumbs“I-I don’t know... I’ve only ever seen its tail over his shoulder. I’m always worried it will sniff me out so I stay in here when he brings it out”

Yana sighed, “well, that’s reasonable at least... what about relationships?”

“well he had this one girl, like a year ago... but then he was gone for a week and she didn’t come over anymore” Xyla felt a little bad as she realized that because of her, Victor had very little privacy.

Yana flopped back in her chair with an exasperated groan, “sheesh, you know nothing about him, do you?”

Xyla hung her head in shame, “I haven’t even seen his face... he always hides it behind that bandana and sunglasses,” she only knew the names of the items because he told her

Yana perked up, “that might be something, what’s he hiding?”

“he said he has nerve damage from a spider bite... he kinda paused before he said spider though.”

“hmm...” Yana looked thoughtful then sank back down with a sigh, “well, blackmail is out of the question... you’ll just have to go with plan B”

   “which is?”

“get to know him... maybe you can be friends”

Xyla being terribly shy and introverted fidgeted at the idea, “and if that doesn't work?”

“leave, if he has no proof that you exist it won’t matter who he tries to tell” Yana crossed her arms with a frown, “those are your options.”

“oh...ok...” she didn’t like either one

“are you seriously hesitating here? are you really that shy?” Yana leaned in with an inquisitive look on her face

   Xyla squirmed, “uh...k-kinda”

“just go say hi... he’s sitting out on the couch playing a game.”

Xyla got up with a defeated sigh and walked to the door where she hesitated, she recognized the game by the sounds. gun fire and a lot of angry sounding yelling in a language she couldn’t quite understand, “is that really a game? It’s so violent”

Yana shrugged, “humans got where they are through violence. I imagine that games like that help satisfy their primal desire for conflict without actually hurting anyone.”

Xyla nodded slowly, Yana was so smart.

Victor smirked a little as a nazi looked over at the place where his buddy’s head had been a half moment before his own mellon decorated the wall behind him. Xyla was peaking out from under the couch beneath his feet, so violent. She jumped as something landed on the floor in front of her and rolled back next to her. She crawled over to it and examined it. It was a metallic cylinder that tapered down to a point on one end and was vaguely yellowish orange in color.

"Did something fall?" Victor paused the game and looked down around his feet.

Xyla took the opportunity and rolled the object out into his view, "h-here... Y-you dropped this."

"Oh, thanks Xyla," he bend down and picked up the object and set it on the couch next to him. Xyla climbed up after it and sat down next to him.

"H-hello" she said awkwardly as victor resumed his game.

"Good morning," his reply was nonchalant, as though greeting a person only the size of his middle finger was normal.

   “watcha playin?”

“It’s called wolfenstein” he explained casually, “It’s a no-brain-needed sort of shooter.”

   “it uh... looks violent”

“oh, it is. Some people don’t like violence. I don’t mind it in video games and movies, but real life I prefer people to not get hurt.” he rapidly tapped a series of buttons on the controller that made his guy spaz out for a second before every person and dead body turned into a pile of fruit, “there... this is the way I play it when Marty is out here”

But why would... never mind, “I think I like it better this way. she said as a mellon (litteral this time) splattered all over the wall with a silly splat sound

“so was there something you wanted?”

“huh, umm... not...really” Xyla’s inner awkward shyness was coming out

“cmon, be honest.” he looked down over to her, some how still managing to shoot every mellon square in the middle

   “umm I...uh... umm...hmm...I”

“cmon, what is it? it’s something important, I can tell”

Xyla sighed and threw any pretense of smooth small talk out the window, “Ok, here’s the deal” she took a deep breath, “When we are caught by a big there are other littles called erasers who make sure that any evidence disappears, including the little that was caught”

Victor paused his game and looked at her properly, “you mean to say that by finding you I could have caused your death?”

Xlya looked down at her toes with embarrassment, “I... I wasn’t being careful and now they might come for me, they had already left a message in my home by the time I got there yesterday”

“what can I do to help?”

Xyla took another deep breath, “I...I need some kinda... I don’t know, is collateral the right word? I need something to prove you won’t turn me in, like a secret of yours or... something”

Back at her doorway Yana slapped her forehead against her palm, ‘what a hopeless girl!’ she thought, ‘but that’s what makes her so much fun’

Victor nodded slowly, “so some mutually assured destruction. If i do something to you, you do something to me... I... I meant it when I said i wouldn’t turn you in or anything, but as a gesture of good faith I will provide you with something like that, ok? but I have to have your word that you won’t tell anyone ok?”

“y-you’ll really trust me with something like that? I mean, I... I’ve lived here for two years... taking things, small things... but things none the less”

“ahh,” Victor chuckled, “I got to wondering if B’s missing doll stuff and you were connected... but two years? wow... but I know that you were just trying to get by, hard to find much else to do at your size in the modern world.”

  Xyla nodded

“well, I’m guessing that you’ve seen Marty, right?”

Xyla shook her head, “I’ve seen his tail when you hold him out here... b-but I was always too afraid to come see what he was... my friend told me about things called Monster lizards that eat mice and birds and stuff”

  “monster...oh! monitor lizards?”

  Xyla blushed, “uh, yeah.”

“no I... tell you what, you come out here tonight when I bring him out... I think you’ll understand why I lock the door when I bring him out, he’s my secret and your insurance, ok?” Victor took a deep breath, “he’s also the most precious thing I have, so know that if you betray me, you forfeit your life”

Xyla nodded nervously and climbed back down the couch to go tell yana and let Victor get back his game. however, when she arrived back at her home Yana was gone, strange. well, nothing to do now but wait.
